ABOUT SPILL-RESPONSE
Clear guidance when the next step is not clear.
Spill-Response is being built to help people understand an oil spill, take sensible next steps and reach the right professional support without having to navigate a fragmented industry alone.
OUR PURPOSE
Understand. Act. Connect.
We bring practical information, careful triage and trusted introductions together in one calm, accessible place.
01 — UNDERSTAND
Make sense of what happened
Plain-English guidance explains the immediate issue, the likely process and the questions worth asking.
02 — ACT
Take the right next step
Situation-led routes help visitors focus on safety, containment, reporting, evidence and recovery.
03 — CONNECT
Reach appropriate expertise
When professional help is needed, we aim to introduce people to suitable independent specialists we know and trust.
WHY WE EXIST
Oil-spill information should be easier to find—and easier to act on.
An oil spill can leave a property owner facing urgent safety questions, environmental concerns, insurance decisions and unfamiliar technical language at the same time. Spill-Response exists to make that journey more manageable.
EXPERIENCE BEHIND THE PROJECT
Experience without an operational agenda
Spill-Response draws on more than three decades of experience across environmental services, oil-spill response, remediation, waste management, insurance-related work, construction and expert-witness consultancy.
Its founder is retired from operational practice and is not involved with any company in the oil-spill remediation, environmental consultancy or heating services sectors. His experience informs Spill-Response’s practical guidance and its focus on helping people understand their situation and identify the kind of independent professional support they may need.
RESPONSE
Emergency spill response
Training and operational experience in spill supervision, incident command and practical response.
ENVIRONMENT
Assessment and remediation
Experience of contamination, environmental management, clean-up decisions and regulated waste.
WIDER CONTEXT
Property, insurance and recovery
An understanding of the commercial, property and claims issues that often surround a spill.
INDEPENDENCE AND TRANSPARENCY
Useful guidance must earn trust.
Spill-Response is not an emergency service, environmental regulator, insurer or remediation contractor. We do not make site-specific diagnoses or decide whether an insurance claim is covered. Our role is to explain, help people navigate the situation and connect them with appropriate expertise.
EDITORIAL INDEPENDENCE
Information comes first
Guidance is developed around the visitor’s needs. A commercial relationship should never determine what a guide says.
CLEAR RELATIONSHIPS
No hidden commercial boundary
Network specialists are independent businesses. If a visitor proceeds, scope, cost and contractual terms are agreed directly with them.
INDEPENDENCE & TRANSPARENCY
How the service is supported
There is no charge to use Spill-Response or access its guidance. Where an introduction to an independent specialist results in work, Spill-Response may receive a referral fee. This helps support the cost of operating, maintaining and developing the website and keeping its guidance freely available.
Specialists are independent businesses. Any advice, scope of work, price and contract are agreed directly between you and the specialist.
OUR INFORMATION STANDARD
Clear enough to use. Careful enough to trust.
The aim is not to produce the most technical website. It is to make good information understandable, show where it comes from and be honest about its limits.
PLAIN ENGLISH
Lead with the answer
Important pages begin with what the reader needs to know or do, followed by deeper explanation.
AUTHORITATIVE SOURCES
Show the evidence
Guides should prioritise regulators, government bodies, recognised standards and credible technical evidence.
EXPERT REVIEW
Check important guidance
Safety, environmental, insurance and regulatory content should be reviewed by appropriately experienced people.
VISIBLE DATES
Keep information current
Meaningful published and reviewed dates help visitors judge whether guidance is still reliable.
JURISDICTION
Say where it applies
Contacts, rules and responsibilities can vary. Important guidance should make its geographical scope clear.
CORRECTIONS
Improve openly
A clear route for questions and corrections helps the knowledge base become more accurate over time.
WHAT WE PROVIDE
A calm route through a difficult problem.
Immediate-action guidance, recovery information, prevention advice, insurance explanations and access to suitable professional support.
OUR LIMITS
Good information cannot replace the right person on site.
Every spill is different. Where there is danger to life, fire or serious injury, contact the emergency services. Where contamination or significant loss is suspected, obtain appropriate professional and official advice.
THE AMBITION
A dependable first place to turn.
We want Spill-Response to become the place people trust for clear oil-spill information—from the first urgent moments, through clean-up and insurance, to prevention and long-term recovery.
